Complex Baker’s Haulover Bridge Rehab Recognized for Outstanding Efforts

The Baker’s Haulover Cut Bridge (pictured above) located in Bal Harbour, FL, was recently rehabilitated to extend the life of the structure under our Districtwide Bridge Rehabilitation Grouping. Bridge bearings and seawalls were replaced, decks and columns were repaired, selected beams were strengthened, and all structural steel was cleaned and painted.

Construction began in September 2016 and was completed over multiple stages to minimize impacts to the public. Replacement of the bridge’s bearings was also challenging as the bridge had to be jacked up and down 20 separate times in order to complete this task. Rehabilitation efforts concluded in May.

More recently, this project was recognized for its quality work. The A1A/Collins Ave. at Baker’s Haulover Cut Bridge Rehabilitation project was presented with the 2019 Florida Transportation Builders’ Association, Inc. (FTBA) Best in Construction Bridge Award, as well as with the 2019 American Society Of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Miami-Dade Branch Project of the Year Category I Award. We congratulate all of those involved, particularly our CEI Team for their efforts and quality work on this notable project!
