Improvements Coming to Marathon, FL

Under FDOT District 6’s Districtwide Traffic Operations Studies contract, BPA provided continuous support as a subconsultant to the Department towards achieving the state’s safety goals for Vulnerable Road Users with the ultimate goal of safer streets, healthier communities, and better quality of life for Florida residents and visitors.

Our Traffic Engineering and Planning Division recently conducted a study and provided recommendations to improve connectivity between the Heritage Trail and Coco Plum Recreational and Bicycle Trail shared use paths at the intersection of SR 5 (US-1/Overseas Highway) and Coco Plum Drive in Marathon, FL. This effort addresses a citizen’s request to install a marked pedestrian crossing on the north side of the intersection due to a growing number of pedestrians and bicyclists.
