Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport Expansion of Runway 9R-27L

Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport’s major runway expansion program has the airport and surrounding roadway system almost unrecognizable. Most notably, US-1 has moved under the newly built runway and taxi structures.

Exiting traffic has also shifted to utilize new higher efficiency north and southbound exit ramps. BPA is responsible for designing the improvements to the Airport Interchange including the two exiting roadway ramps and retaining walls. The US-1 / I-595 Braided Ramp at the north end of the Interchange and the Airport Exit Ramp at the south end will significantly reduce traffic congestion and increase flow out of the airport. Construction is scheduled to be complete by the end of 2014.
