BPA provided roadway, structural and construction support services under a Construction Savings Initiative (CSI) contract for the SR 836 & NW 87th Ave. Interchange Westbound Flyover redesign and reconstruction. This project significantly improves congestion and traffic flow at the SR 836/Dolphin Expressway interchange with NW 87th Ave. by providing new direct expressway access. Our design scope included bridge, roadway approaches, retaining walls, lighting system, signalization and S&PM.
BPA redesigned the project’s Bridge 7 Structural Steel Box Girder; a 271 ft. single-lane bridge and the longest curved simple-span dual steel box girder structure in the State of Florida. The original design comprised a 483 ft. long two-span curved continuous plate girder bridge structure. BPA also performed a slight realignment of the bridge and modified the structural system using steel box girders saving the project approximately 42%, or 539,000 pounds, of steel.
BPA was also the Roadway Engineer of Record for a CSI for the re-design of Ramp D3 (Bridge No. 7), which provides access from NW 12th St. to westbound SR 836.
